Ulises Farinas's MOTRO

One of my favorite things in the world is discovering/devouring a new comic. I think every comic/graphic novel I’ve ever gotten into has been an end-to-end, all-in-one sitting read: Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns, Invincible, Madman, Jimmy Corrigan, David Boring…) It’s been awhile since I’ve had this experience – lately I feel guilty for spending money on comics. Maybe this is part of growing up, or just part of owing UCLA $120,000+

Fortunately, my latest, favorite comic is free – if not quite finished. MOTRO, by Ulises Farinas (I discovered him through his Threadless Select Tee), is totally free.

The comic is an epic journey set in a surreal (yet Conan-the-Barbarian-tinged) world. A boy is offered up to save his village and must become the hero he may or may not be destined to be. He fights lions. He meets a somewhat unassuming man who controls fate.

Farinas describes Motro:

This is a tale of one chubby boy with beautiful hair growing into a chubby man with beautiful hair. He will fight square ice lions, giant beasts of the lands and seas, and transcend reality!!! It is a very nice story.
